What kinds of diodes are there?

There are several types, signal diode, high current diode, voltage regulator, TVS tube, Schottky diode, etc.

1. Signal diode

That is, the diode with small forward current, fast recovery speed and small size. Used on signal lines.

2. High current diode

It is generally used for anti inversion, and the rated forward current, reverse voltage and forward voltage drop shall be paid attention to when selecting.

When selecting this type of diode, because its forward current is large, in order to reduce power consumption, the smaller the forward voltage drop is, the better. The greater the reverse voltage, the better.

3. Pressure stabilizing pipe

Also called zener tube, it refers to a small voltage stabilizing tube used for signal line protection. It is not necessary to pay special attention to power unless the signal fluctuates greatly.

4. TVS pipe

It refers to the high-power transient protection, which is generally used on the power line. The voltage stabilizing value shall be selected according to the withstand voltage of the subsequent circuit, and the power shall be selected according to the fluctuation of the power signal.

5. Schottky diode

The above four types are classified by function, and the name of Schottky diode comes from its different manufacturing process from other tubes, which is a completely different classification method.

That is, Schottky diode has both small signal diode and large anti reverse diode.

Schottky diode is characterized by small forward voltage drop, but also small reverse voltage withstand. Schottky diode shall be selected as far as possible when there is no requirement for reverse withstand voltage.

The above is only a rough division based on experience.
